About
A small consultancy that takes your data seriously, and itself a lot less so.
Clarity Business Intelligence is an independent Power BI consulting service based in the UK. We help teams turn messy spreadsheets and scattered systems into reporting that actually gets used.
Clarity Business Intelligence is a small, independent consultancy with 12 years of experience working hands-on with data. Over that time we have helped all sorts of teams get a clearer picture of what is going on in their business, from owner-managed firms with a single laptop full of spreadsheets to larger organisations running reporting across several departments.
We started out because too many reporting projects end the same way. A lot of money goes in, a fancy dashboard comes out, and six months later nobody opens it. We do things a little differently. We are friendly, honest, and we focus on leaving your team more capable than when we arrived. That means fewer reports, clearer numbers, and a small set of tools your team can actually keep going on their own.
We have worked with lots of different types of data, including business development, HR, finance, commercial, health and safety, sustainability, procurement and marketing. The subject changes from project to project, but the approach stays the same. Start with the question, keep things simple, and make sure people actually use what we build.
Our Power BI consulting services
Practical business intelligence, without the jargon.
Most of our work falls under the umbrella of Power BI consulting services. That is a broad label, so it is worth saying what we actually do day to day. We help teams understand their numbers, design clear reports, and build the kind of business intelligence setup that fits the size and shape of their organisation. We do not push a one-size-fits-all platform. We pick what works, and most of the time that is the Power BI service backed by sensible foundations underneath.
A typical engagement starts with a conversation about your business goals. What decisions are you trying to make. What is slowing those decisions down. Which questions come up in every management meeting and never quite get answered with confidence. From there we look at your data sources, your existing reporting, and the people who will eventually own the result. Only then do we start talking about a data model, a Power BI report, or which analytics tools should sit where.
We deliver Power BI dashboards that people actually open. We design the underlying data model so it holds up as your business grows. We handle the Power BI implementation end to end, or we slot in alongside an existing team to shore up the bits that have got a bit wobbly. We also offer ongoing support services for clients who would rather have a friendly expert on call than hire a full-time analyst.
How we work with data
From raw data sources to reports that get used.
Connecting your data sources
Most organisations have data spread across more places than they would like. Finance lives in one system, HR in another, the commercial team has a spreadsheet that nobody is allowed to touch. We bring those data sources together using Power Query and Power BI Desktop, then shape them into something tidy that the rest of your reporting can rely on. Where it makes sense, we set things up so refreshes run in close to real time, so the numbers in front of you are the numbers as they stand today rather than as they stood at the end of last month.
Building a sensible data model
A good data model is the quiet hero of any Power BI report. Get it right and everything that follows is faster, more accurate, and easier to extend. Get it wrong and you end up with slow dashboards, odd totals, and a long list of broken measures. We spend the time up front to design a model that matches how your business actually thinks about its data, not just how it happens to be stored. That pays off every time someone adds a new question, a new measure, or a new page.
Data analytics and data analysis
Once the foundations are in place, the interesting part starts. Good data analytics is not about producing more charts. It is about answering the questions that change what you do next. We work with you on the data analysis side as well as the visuals, helping you spot the trends, the outliers, and the patterns that are worth acting on. Where useful, we layer in simple forecasting or comparisons so your team can see not just what happened, but what is likely to happen next.
Power BI integration with what you already use
You probably already have tools that work well. We are not in the business of replacing them. Power BI integration with finance systems, CRMs, project tracking tools, HR platforms and the wider Microsoft stack is part of what we do. Where teams want to surface reporting inside their own applications or customer portals, Power BI Embedded gives us a clean way to do that without rebuilding everything from scratch.
Areas we have worked across
Data comes in all shapes and sizes.
Over the years we have helped teams visualise and report on lots of different types of information, including:
- Business development
- HR
- Finance
- Commercial
- Health and safety
- Sustainability
- Procurement
- Marketing
The mix of subjects is part of what keeps the work interesting. It also means we have seen most of the common reporting headaches before. Whether you need a tidy set of Power BI dashboards for a leadership team, a more detailed Power BI report for an operations lead, or a wider rollout across several departments, we can shape the work to fit.
Why teams pick us
A BI consulting service that treats your team as the long-term owner.
There are plenty of large firms offering BI solutions, and a lot of them do good work. We are not trying to compete with that. What we offer is a smaller, more personal BI consulting service, where the person you speak to on the first call is the same person doing the work. No handoffs to a junior team, no glossy slide decks, no surprise add-ons halfway through. Just steady, honest delivery from someone who has built and fixed a lot of reports over the years.
We also care a lot about handover. Plenty of consultancies are happy to build something clever and then disappear. We would rather your team understood how it all fits together, so we always include training as part of a Power BI implementation. That might be a couple of short sessions on Power BI Desktop and Power Query for your in-house analyst, or a more structured walkthrough for managers who want to maintain dashboards themselves. Either way, the goal is the same. You should not need us forever.
What we believe
Less, but better
One report people use is worth more than five they ignore. We are happy to delete things.
Keep it clear
If you cannot explain a number on a dashboard, it should not be on the dashboard.
Hand it over properly
If your team cannot keep it going after we leave, we have not really finished.
Those three ideas guide pretty much everything we do. They are also the reason most of our work comes through word of mouth. When a Power BI report genuinely helps someone make a better decision, they tell other people, and that is the kind of growth we are interested in.
If you are still weighing up whether you need a full BI consulting service or just a friendly second opinion, that is fine too. Sometimes a short review of your current setup is all it takes to unstick a project. Sometimes a few hours of pair work in Power BI Desktop saves weeks of frustration. We are happy to scope the work to match where you actually are, not where a sales pitch says you should be.
