Power BI Audit

A Power BI health check that actually tells you something.

A fixed price, independent Power BI audit of the platform you already have. We look at everything that quietly costs you money or credibility — slow reports, brittle models, weak security, unused licences — and write it up in plain English with a prioritised action list.

Independent consultant reviewing a Power BI report against an audit checklist

Most Power BI estates we look at are somewhere between "works most of the time" and "we are quietly nervous about it". Refreshes fail unpredictably. A few reports are slow enough that people have stopped opening them. Nobody is completely sure who has access to what. There are probably licences being paid for that nobody uses.

A Power BI audit is the fastest way to turn that fuzzy anxiety into a written list of things to fix, in priority order, with honest estimates. It is a fixed price piece of work — no open-ended discovery, no follow-on obligation.

What you get

  • • Written audit report, 15–25 pages
  • • Prioritised action list with effort estimates
  • • RAG rated risk register
  • • Licence usage and cost breakdown
  • • Model, DAX and refresh diagnostics
  • • A 60 minute walk-through session
  • • Slides you can take to your board

What we look at

Six areas, one honest verdict on each.

Data model quality

Relationships, star schema hygiene, bidirectional traps, calculated column overuse, dataset size and refresh time. The single biggest driver of performance and future flexibility.

Report performance

Visual render times, query timings, storage engine vs formula engine balance. Where the slow reports are and, more usefully, why.

Security and governance

Row level security correctness, workspace hierarchy, sharing patterns, endorsement labels, sensitivity, and gateway ownership. The audit that gets a call from the regulator if it is wrong.

DAX quality

Measure structure, time intelligence patterns, reuse, error handling, comments. Whether a new starter could pick it up in a week or would need a month.

Licence and capacity

Pro, Premium Per User, Fabric F-SKU. Who has what, who is not using it, and where you could downgrade or consolidate.

Operations

Refresh success rates, gateway health, deployment pipeline usage, source system risk, and who actually opens which report.

How it runs

Two weeks, fixed price, no surprises.

A typical Power BI audit takes two calendar weeks. Most of the work is done in our tenant, using read-only access. You spend about two hours in total: a kick-off call, a short review with a couple of report owners, and a walk-through of the findings.

Pricing typically sits between £4,500 and £8,500 depending on tenant size. You are under no obligation to use us to fix anything the audit finds; we will happily send you off with the action list.

01

Kick-off

One hour call to agree scope, workspaces in scope, and access. Read-only access provisioned the same day.

02

Diagnostics

Automated scans, model inspection with Tabular Editor and DAX Studio, gateway and refresh review, licence extract.

03

Interviews

Two or three short calls with the owners of the reports that matter most. Ten minutes each, no prep required.

04

Report and walk-through

Written report delivered, followed by a 60 minute walk-through session. Your team keeps the deck and the action list.
